Ingrowing toenails are commonly classified into three stages:

  • Stage 1 (Mild): Redness, tenderness, and slight swelling around the nail edge, without significant infection.
  • Stage 2 (Moderate): Increased pain, swelling, and signs of infection such as drainage or granulation tissue.
  • Stage 3 (Severe): Chronic inflammation, excessive granulation tissue, recurrent infection, and significant discomfort.

As a home-based podiatry service, we are able to assess and treat Stage 1 ingrowing toenails. Patients presenting with Stage 2 or Stage 3 ingrowing toenails may require nail surgery and will be referred to an appropriate clinic for further management.
